Milledgeville Georgia.

Located in the Antebellum (and permanent) capital of Georgia right in the center of the state. We are 45 miles from Macon where the closest synagogues are. A college town of 30,000 people with two colleges, Georgia College & State University and Georgia Military College. There are about 40 families, 80 people. We have an Einstein's on the GCSU college campus, but this is biscuit country.

Most families go to Macon (1 hr SE) to a conservadox or reform temples. PUBLIX there or in Greensboro carry jewish foods, although all the grocery stores in Milledgeville carry Hebrew National products, even the Piggley Wiggley.

Jewish families are represented in the medical, college professor, retail, and retirement fields. Jewish History: There was a prominent Waitzfelder family here in the 1840's that went on to form the Cotton Exchange in NYC. Goldstein's Department Store was prominent in the 50's. It's ceramic entry can still be seen on South Wayne Street.

At various times there have been weekly shabbat services and community seders, sukkot, taslich, and chanukah celebrations.
